Lalitha Lajmi
Lalitha Lajmi has evolved a distinctive imagery over the years, comprising highly personalized and evocative statements of her inner psyche. She employs masks as symbols of subterfuge, using them either in isolation or as part of a greater narrative, with figures camouflaged with them or dressed as clowns and jokers. Though she concentrated on small-sized, sepia toned etchings at the start of her career, she has, over the past decade, used similar imagery in her colourful oils and watercolours. After teaching art in schools for over 20 years, she now lives and paints in Mumbai.
