Satish Gujral

Satish Gujral has been endlessly inventive, exploring such diverse mediums of expression, murals architecture, painting, drawing and sculpture. His themes have also evolved with the times, being at first sociological and political, then iconic with themes such as GANESHA, whom he visualized as burnt wood reliefs embellished with leather cards, ceramic beads, crushed leather sheets, glowing vermilion powder mixed and patented with gold leaf. Still later he moved on to overt sexual images of woman hybridized with birds and animals. The colours are now aggressive with lurid reds, hot pinks and parrot greens. Satish Gujral's sculptures are similar to his paintings, his imagery being conceived first in paint and later replicated in sculpture. The women, who could have been born out of Indian mythology are depicted in smooth whiteness of marble as well as granite. He lives and works in New Delhi.
