ASHOKE MULLICK
Born in 1957, he graduated from Govt. College of Art & Craft, Calcutta and was awarded a Cultural Scholarship by the Govt. of
India in '81-'82. He has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows in New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and taken
part in several work shops across India. He has also exhibited in Singapore, Indonesia, France, Germany, Sweden and New York.
Mullick constructs his imagery juxtaposing the real with the imaginary, choosing objects carefully with a view to unsettling the
viewer by its seeming correspondence to real life situations. His placement of nude and draped figures with animals, birds and
unprepossessing looking women contain an element of the surreal, while his choice of hues, point to the darker side of
humanity. He lives and works as a fulltime artist in Calcutta.
